All trustees are elected at large from the District (the Library District is the same as the Ann Arbor School District). Terms are four years long beginning July 1 of the year they are elected. The next election will be held in May 2008.

Officers are elected by the Board at the Annual Board Meeting in July. Officers serve for a one year term and for no more than two consecutive years in the same office.

Committees are advisory groups to the Board. They present non-binding recommendations to the Board of Trustees which the Board then decides to reject, accept, or modify. Board committee appointments are done by the President with the approval of the Board.
