At right, third-grade teacher Barbara Murray shares a giant bear hug with a group of students as they leave for the summer. The last day of school couldn't have come too soon, as students and teachers sweltered through the final days in non-air conditioned classrooms in near-record heat. Teachers finish up for the year today after turning in grades. Classes don't resume until late August or early September. The school calendar for the coming year has not yet been established. Of course, that's the last thing on the mind of the students, who will be filing up local pools, going to camp or hitting the road for family vacations in the coming weeks.
