"William R. Beauchamp (nearest plane in picture at left) [this photo] ponders how to get off the ground the Cesna 150 which he landed on US-23 near Baker rd., Northfield Township, when he ran out of gas yesterday. State Police cars (in picture at right) follow the plane as the pilot prepares to take off from highway. The police brought Beauchamp enough gas to get to the nearest airport. Beauchamp told police he ran out of gas about 3p.m. and came down on the US-23 expressway to the surprise of many passing motorists. No one was hurt. The pilot said he was flying from the west to Salem and landed on the southbound lanes of busy US-23. Police said Beauchamp 37, is from Lewes, Del. Beauchamp was alone in the plane he piloted, but it soon attracted a crowd."
