AMONG THE LARGEST: This 18-ton granite monument at The Happy Hunting Ground Memorial Park for Pets near South Lyon is reputed to be one of the largest single pieces of monument stone in Michigan. In front of the memorial rests "Platoon Sergeant Sparks," a dog that served three years in the Pacific Theater during World War II and received seven citations, three personally by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The dog was alive and present when the monument was dedicated in 1946.
