The Atlas Milling Co. of Clinton whose products are shipped today throughout the East and Middle West is only one of several successful flour manufacturers who have occupied the mill, shown above, for 118 years. The original building was erected by Snow and Kies in 1835. An addition was erected in 1919 and in 1937 the Hoyt interests who now own and operate the mill built the huge 50,000-bushel elevator in center. Hugh P. Hoyt, the father, bought the plant in 1912. Since his death in January of this year the two sons, Paul M. and Hugh H. Hoyt have operated it. The mill uses bought water power from the River Raisin and electric auxiliary motors. In addition to the manufacture of Atlas flour from soft, white winter wheat the mill also handles feed and farm equipment.
