Growth of a Campus: This picturesque landscape illustrates why officials of Ypsilanti's Michigan State Normal College boast of one of the fastest-growing institutions in this state. Although the five U-shaped dormitories at the left mark the present northern limits of college buildings, the campus now extends north all the way to the Huron River at far right, involving 107 acres for further expansion and including nearly all the land not now developed with housing. Preparation of footings for a $3,000,000 athletic plant has already begun at (1), while a contract to build another new dormitory at (2) has been awarded. The college is seeking annexation of the 107 acres to the city of Ypsilanti so water and sewer facilities will be available at the site (3), where work is expected to begin this fall on building 48 apartment units for married students.
