LARGEST IN CITY: These 143-foot-long prefabricated wood beams in place at the new Colonial Lanes bowling alley of 1950 Industrial Hwy. are believed to be the largest clear spans to be erected in the city. Each beam weighs 4 1/2 tons and is made up of at least 58 pieces of wood laminated together. Two railroad flat cars were required to transport the beams from a factory in Peshtigo, Wis., with the rearmost car protecting the beams' overhang. Each beam is 28 feet high at the center. Colonial Lanes is being built by the Pinnacle Corp., which is headed by Donald Laubengayer of Ann Arbor, and is to be operated by that group when the bowling alley opens about Sept. 1. The alley will contain 28 lanes, a nursery room, a bar-lunch room, and will be air conditioned.
