BALANCING ACT: Painting the proscenium at the Michigan Theater is a delicate matter involving a tall scaffolding, a calm-nerved painter and a companion who acts as the counter-balance. Joe Goodman does the painting while Elmer Peterson sits on the other end of the ladder to counteract Goodman's weight.
