Handing Out Corsages at the Federated Garden Clubs of Michigan Convention Banquet. The Federated Garden Clubs of Michigan held their 1938 annual convention in Ann Arbor. The convention ended with a banquet at the Michigan Union ballroom.
"The woman receiving the corsage is Florence Ruthven, wife of Alexander Grant Ruthven, President of the University of Michigan from 1929 to 1951. Presenting the gardenia corsage was Mrs. Frederick Amasa Coller, whose husband was Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Department of Surgery in the University of Michigan Medical School. The woman at right is one of the three founders of the Ann Arbor Garden Club, Elizabeth (Mrs. James) Inglis, whose 1927 French Chateau on Huntington Drive, overlooking the Arboretum, now belongs to the University." - Wystan Stevens
