Going Up: Candy, coat hangers, old newspapers, bottles and donations from allowances helped push up Jones School's CARE collection on its thermometer register. Nearly every child did his bit to raise money to send books to children in England, the Philippines, Japan, Italy, Greece and Norway, Principal Emerson F. Powrie said. The "temperature" at $47 yesterday went up to $66.91 over night, it was reported. Third grader Vernon Merritt, 8, (at left) makes his contribution and Marilyn Fullerton, 8, another third grader, looks over the chart.
