The Social Service Exchange is operated by the [Community] Fund as a clearing-house for public and private welfare agencies, and for other community organizations interested in providing social or health service to the less-fortunate residents of Ann Arbor. 10,000 Names in File The exchange maintains a name and address index file of more than 10,000 individuals and families known to one or more of the social agencies. Strictly confidential, each family card lists only the names of the agencies serving the family in the past or president, with the date when contact was made. No record of the family's history or needs is made, only the minimum information needed for identification purposes. The exchange is exactly what its name implies a card file giving cross-reference to families served and is for the use only of recognized welfare organizations. It helps prevent duplication of service, protects individuals being aided from the embarrassment of frequent investigation, and accelerates the process of helping those in need.
