Brown (center) professor of epidemiology at the University's Medical Center, holds vials containing blood samples from pregnant women that are being examined in a U-M School of Public Health laboratory for virus antibodies in research aimed at finding out if certain viruses cause birth defects. Looking on are Mrs. Robert Cross (left), chairman of the Washtenaw County chapter of the National Foundation March of Dimes, and William Russell, National Foundation official from New York.
