LOCAL PLAYERS ELIGIBLE TO WIN THESE TROPHIES: Some Ann Arbor boy or girl novice tennis player can have one of these trophies shown above providing he or she can win the Michigan state novice tennis tournament title to be decided here Aug. 2 and 3.
But first the local players will have to enter the Ann Arbor News novice tournament and either win or place in the runner-up position to be eligible for the state tournament. Similar preliminary tournaments are held in seven other Michigan cities, with the best 32 qualifying for the state finals. It is estimated that more than 3,000 men and women players will compete in the district and regional tournaments.
The two trophies shown in the center above will go to the men's state champion and the women's state champion. The trophies are gold-plated mounted on a walnut base and are 22 inches tall.
The trophies are shown at the ends above will be presented to the runners-up. They are 20 inches tall and silver-plate mounted on a walnut base. (The Ann Arbor News, June 19, 1940)
