Miss Mildred Demmink of Grand Rapids is shown in the picture at the upper left, holding the gold trophy emblematic of the Michigan state novice tennis tournament which she won Saturday afternoon at Palmer field. In winning the title Mrs. Demmink defeated Miss Christine Van Loo of Kalamazoo, upper right, shown displaying the runner-up trophy. Miss Demmink won in the finals by scores of 6-2, 6-4. Lower left shows Roger Lewis, 16 year-old Ann Arbor boy in action during his finals match with Merle Gulick of Dowagiac. Roger won the men's singles title in a three-set match by scores of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. Gulick is shown holding the runner-up trophy [this photo].
