Looking closely, you will note that among the jailbirds at the County Jail today were these two genuine specimens perched on the head and shoulder of Lt. Vincent Fox of the Sheriff's Department Identification Bureau. The two birds are canaries that were born in Southern Michigan Prison and raised there by a convict. When the convict brought them with him to the Washtenaw jail, Lt. Fox and Sheriff John Osborn each bought one. Here Sheriff Osborn listens through the bars to the pair as they attempt to "sing their way out of stir."
