Fleming Building Bathrooms Occupied In Protest Of Discrimination Against Gay Students, January 1988
Year
1988
Month
January
Description
"About 25 gay student activists this morning occupied the bathrooms of the University of Michigan's Fleming Administration Building to protest a request last week by a university regent to investigate reports of "homosexual activity" in the bathrooms of another campus building. "The protest is basically to point out how ludicrous Regent Deane Baker's request was," said Alicia Lucksted, a leader of Lesbian and Gay Rights on Campus. "We object to him equating our struggle for equal rights with sex in public bathrooms.'" (The Ann Arbor News, January 22, 1988)
