We of Civic Theatre would like to congratulate our president, Clan Crawford, Jr., on his recent nomination as Republican candidate for the City Council from the Second W ard. Good Luck, Clan!
NOTES ABOUT THE CAST
DR. STUART M. GOULD, JR., playing the role of the Duke of Venice, was formerly active with the Fort Leavenworth Dramatics Club in 1952 and was also active with the University of Michigan Student Operas. Stuart, a local psychiatrist, was last seen on our stage in the musical "RX."
PAUL DAY, who hails from Fresno Beach, Calif., has been active in the recent Civic Theatre productions of "Tea and Sympathy" and most recent for his outstanding role of Bo Decker in our comedy success, "Bus Stop."
GEORGE CHOYKE & RUSSELL MacDONALD, making their debut on our stage this evening. RUSSELL AIUTO, one of our most active members, opened the season as Lt. Maryk in "Caine Mutiny Court-Martial" and makes his fourth appearance of the season as he portrays Bassanio this evening.
CHARLES E. CHADWICK, JOHN RAE & TOM LITTLE have all appeared in previous productions of "Night of January 16." DOUG CHAPMAN was last seen in our season's opener of "Caine Mutiny Court-Martial."
LESLIE WHIT AKER, exchange teacher from England, changed places with William Taylor of Ann Arbor High School during this current school year. Leslie is a dramatics "teacher and we hope you enjoy his portrait of Shylock. . BOB COTTINGHAM and AL PHILLIPS have been in recent Civic Theater productions. Al last appeared in "The Seven Year Itch" and Bob was seen in "Caine Mutiny."
A. B. CRANDELL, one of our regular character actors, has one of the longest list of credits of anyone in the group. Al has been appearing on stage for over 30 years and has never missed a sea- son since 1947 when he starred in "My Sister Eileen." Abbie held the backstage cribbage championship for years.
RUTH LIVING TON, eateg 0 car Award winner comes thru again this evening to make her third appearance of the season. Previously she was seen in "Seven Year Itch" and "Gigi." Nerissa ' is played by HELGA HOVER who has played Shakespearean roles in Germany while she was with a professional repertoir theatre, both acting and dancing. Helga first appeared with Civic Theatre in 1950 when she came to U. S. Recently she has been seen in "Night of January 16," "I am a Camera," and "RX." Her danc- ing is one of our finest backstage entertainments, afforded by her ballet training in Germany.
MARY ANN STEVENSON is making a second appearance with Civic Theatre this evening. She will be remembered for her amus- ing role as the waitress in "Bus Stop."
PHYLISS ESHELMAN & ANNE WEHRER have played our footlights before.
