Kim Mackenzie DIRECTOR'S NOTES "Boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl. Been done a million times:' This is a quote from Jason Carmichael, playwrite and character from this play and it's about to happen to him, with all the pain, frustration and humor that can be packed into two hours. What he fails to say, but is said by our leading lady, is "People still respond to romantic comedies;' and she is right. Whether comic or tragic, Love and Romance have been the basis for a great majority of our novels, throughout time immemorial. Frankly ladies and gentlemen, with business being what it is, I cannot believe there would be that much supply without some demand. So sit back, snuggle and enjoy-we're about to supply your demand. Patricia Rector Director SETTING The entire action of the play takes place in the study of Jason Carmichael's New York townhouse. ACT ONE Scene 1: A spring morning in the mid-seventies. Scene 2: Late night, a year later. ACT TWO Scene 1: A November morning, ten years later. Scene 2: Late afternoon, six weeks later. ACT THREE Scene 1: A mid-September morning, two years later. Scene 2: Late afternoon, three weeks later. Scene 3: The next morning. (There will be a 10 minute intermission between each act.) The University of Michigan does NOT allow smoking in either the Lydia Mendelssohn house or lobby. But there is other magic in the theatre-magic backed up by hard work, devotion, and your contributions. AACT's produc· tion staff (all volunteers!) makes most of its own sets, costumes, and props. Here is a sampling of what your dollar can buy: • $20.00 got us a good deal on the "gold" planters that grace Jason's office. • $75.00 provides the cushion for Jason's fall as he goes toe-to-toe with Phoebe. • $100.00 trucks the entire show over from Main Street, where it is built, to the Lydia Mendelssohn stage. • $975.00 designs, assembles, and prints the pages from which you are reading at this moment. Multiply these costs, and many, many more by six, and you'll have the price tag of another extraordinary season in your community playhouse. Ticket sales cover about two-thirds of those costs. The balance comes mainly from our producer. And, in community theatre, the producer is you, the audience. Please use the form, below, to help round out these figures. Your support will keep us in the black, our cast on the stage-and you in the world of magic!
