She has directed 47 plays for the U of M's Department of Theatre, where she holds Professor Emeritus status. In 1987, she directed MURDER IN THE CATHEDRAL for the 150th anniversary of Christ Church Cathedral in Indianapolis. Ms. Baird's acting credits include nomination for a New York Critics' Award by Walter Kerr of The New York Times for her performance in Ellis Raab's production of YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU at the Lyceum Theatre, New York. In 1979, Ms. Baird was elected to the College of Fellows of the American Theatre Association. Ms. Baird is also a member of the AACT Honorary Advisory Committee. ANDY LINDSTROM (Weller Martin) has appeared in seven AACT productions, including GUYS AND DOLLS, THE SHADOW BOX, BELLS ARE RINGING, and DAMN YANKEES! In 1987, he and Ms. Wright opened AACT's season opposite one another in PLAZA SUITE. His AACTing career is resurrected with THE GIN GAME after a two-year immersion in the governance and future of Civic Theatre, leading our journey to a new permanent facility, and as the current President of the Board of Directors. Mr. Lindstrom has the further distinction of serving time as a starving young professional artist for a few years in New York City theatre during the early SO's. His passions, beside theatre, include, "golf, tennis, and grandchildren." PHYLLIS WRIGHT (Fonsia Dorsey) is also a veteran AACTor, having performed in THE ROYAL FAMILY, JANUS, THE BARRETTS OF WIMPOLE STREET, MAJOR BARBARA. THE LATE CHRISTOPHER BEAN, and PLAZA SUITE. An ardent supporter of the arts, Ms. Wright is a Trustee for the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, a docent for the U of M Museum of Art, a member of AACT's Honorary Advisory Committee, and the 1989 recipient of the Washtenaw Council for the Arts Annie Award as Washtenaw County's Arts Volunteer of the Year! WELCOME TO OUR DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY PARTY! It's been 60 years since a vibrant group of Ann Arborites declared, "Lets get together and put on a play!" As Mary Kessel* reports, "We all loved the theatre, so one afternoon we did get together, decided to call ourselves Ann Arbor Civic Theatre and began presenting, learning and teaching others the delights of the stage:' The magic and excitement of theatre that guided Mrs. Kessel continues to sparkle throughout this, our 60th Diamond Anniversary Season, as we entertain you, our audience-30,000 people from 5 Michigan counties and northern Ohio. Join us on our magic carpet ride from Central Park to the Tower of London, to a fairy-tale Scottish glen, to the new Performing Arts Center of our future! And if you see Mrs. Kessel in the audience, do be sure to say, "Hello!" • Founding Member of Ann Arbor Civic Theatre, 1989-90 season subscriber and active Civic Theatre volunteer.
