In 2024, the City of Ann Arbor celebrates the 200th anniversary of its founding. The town was platted on Native American lands of the Anishinaabeg peoples as part of the Northwest Territory of the United States. The character of historic Ann Arbor is defined in many ways––through its historic buildings, old neighborhoods, lost or near-forgotten events, and its natural and human-modified environment.
The Highlights Tour will help you get your feet wet in and around Ann Arbor by visiting dozens of iconic locations that collectively represent the unique qualities of our city. The Highlights Tour can best be experienced by car or bicycle but individual sites in downtown Ann Arbor are easily experienced on foot. You can start with almost any site on the tour. Some of the sites serve as jumping off points for other tours.
