Walter J. Conrad, 32, of 3201 Glynn court, Detroit, a former resident of Ann Arbor, died at 4:30 Sunday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Conrad's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Nowland, 933 Wall St., after a week's illness. Mr. and Mrs. Conrad came to Ann Arbor Saturday April 28, for a visit with her parents.
Mr. Conrad was born Feb. 10, 1896, in Hart, and was employed in Detroit as a civil engineer by Henry M. Martens. He attended University of Michigan for three years. He was married to Rhea E. Nowland of this city nine years ago and they made their home here until moving to Detroit. Mr. Conrad was a member of Golden Rule lodge, No. 159, F. & A. M., of Ann Arbor.
He is survived by the widow; five sisters, Mrs. William Shepherd of Muskegon, Mrs. W. A. Childs of Walkerville, Mrs. E. Hoffmyer and Mrs. B. Schilhaneck of Hart and Mrs. Frank Bettis of Lakeview, and two brothers, O. E. Conrad of Detroit and David Conrad of Ludington.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Calvary Evangelical church, Broadway. Rev. A. E. Kurth will officiate. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.
