RELATIVES PROVIDE HOME FOR ORPHANS
Inquest Into Fatal Crash Scheduled Tuesday
(Special to The Daily News)

Ypsilanti, May 2 – The five young children orphaned last Saturday night by the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Stockdale, 314 Parsons St., this city, have been taken temporarily into the families of relatives pending a decision as to their permanent future homes. Their parents lost their lives when a group of four persons walking across Michigan Ave. just east of the Huron river bridge here were struck by an automobile driven by Frederick Cain, jr., 22, son of Frederick Cain, sr., assistant postmaster here.
Lawrence Stockdale, 12, is now living with Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Taylor, on the Holmes road, east of this city, and Mr. Taylor has been made special administrator of the estates of Mr. and Mrs. Stockdale.
Ether, 12, and Doris, 2, are now with Mrs. Robert McKinstry, on the Ecorse road, near Sheldon, seven miles east of Ypsilanti, while Edith, 15, and Mary, 7, are with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Stone, at Michigan Center, near Jackson.
Mrs. Stone is a sister of Mrs. Stockdale, while the Taylor and McKinstry families are related to the Stockdales.
An unusual coincidence is found in the fact that Mrs. Stockdale was one of a family of five children left half-orphaned at an early age by the death of their mother. Their father was not able to keep the family together, and the children were scattered, growing to manhood and womanhood feeling scarcely acquainted with their brothers and sisters.
An inquest into the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Stockdale will be held at 7:45 Tuesday evening, May 8, in the council rooms at the city hall here, with Coroner David N. Robb and Prosecutor Albert J. Rapp questioning the witnesses.
Members of the jury will be Phelps Crouse, Charles P. Knapp, Lloyd Lyke, William Knight, Ernest Maddux and Miss Nella DeHaan.
Funeral services for the Stockdales were held here Tuesday afternoon, and burial was in Highland cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Durham, 624 Norris St., who were injured in the same accident which cost the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Stockdale, were reported today at the Beyer Memorial hospital as being slightly improved although still in a serious condition.
