Four Others Are Injured
Ann Arbor Golden Gloves Champion Has Skull Fractured in Accident on Packard Road as Cars Hit Head-On
Archie Moore, 19-year-old Golden Glove boxer and winner of the Ann Arbor Daily News trophy as the outstanding novice boxer in the tourney here in January, was killed and four others seriously injured in a head-on automobile crash this afternoon on the Packard road.
The four injured were Nelson Terry, 19 years old, Herman Kauska, 35, Samuel Hutchison, 55, and Thomas McFadzean, 45, all of Platt.
The accident occurred near the double curve at the Stone school on Packard road when the automobile driven by Moore, in which Terry also was riding, apparently skidded and crashed into another car driven by Kauska, in which the other two men were passengers.
Terry was thrown out of the car as it was turned over by the impact, while Moore was pinned beneath the steering wheel and his skull fractured.
The four other victims of the accident were brought to St. Joseph's Mercy hospital suffering from severe cuts about the head and body.
Moore had gained considerable recognition as an amateur boxer. His last ring appearance was made Thursday night when he defeated Fred Beyne of Grand Rapids in the inter-city team match at the Armory.
He also was the Ann Arbor Golden Glove Champion in the lightweight division and was judged the outstanding novice boxer of this year's Golden Glove tournament.
Moore's body was removed to the Muehlig funeral chapel.
