Sumner E. Howe, 76, Dies in Ypsilanti

YPSILANTI - Sumner E. Howe, 76 years old, a resident of Ypsilanti for the past forty years, and for 35 years engaged in the retail coal and food business here, died yesterday at his home, 125 North Summity St., following an illness of more than a year with a complication of diseases.
Mr. Howe was born on a farm near Owosso, and his early life was spent there and in Corunna.. On June 28, 1888, he married Miss Della Bogue, of this city, who survives him. After spending several years in Mt. Pleasant, Mr. and Mrs. Howe moved to Ypsilanti where Mr. Howe immediately entered the coal business. He retired a few years ago. He was a member of First Baptist church here, and for 14 years was treasurer of that church.
Surviving, besides the widow, are two daughters, Mrs. James Mutchmor, Winnipeg, Alta., and Mrs. Ralph Glick, Green Springs, O.; one sister, Mrs. Burton Gillis, Medford, Ore.; one brother, S. J. Howe, Denver, Colo., and several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon at the home, with Rev. William R. Shaw, pastor of First Baptist church here, and Rev. Charles Ehle, a family friend, officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery here.
