Burke Heads Civil Service Commission George J. Burke Detroit-(P) — Governor Frank Murphy appointed as members of the state civil service commission today Mrs. Paul Jones, Grand Rapids civic leader; Stuart H. Perry, Adrian publisher, and George J. Burke, Ann Arbor attorney. Burke, AWG prominent 3 Democrat and one of the party's leaders in the state, will be chairman of the commission. He was appointed recently by Gov. Murphy as one of the two Democratic members of the state corrections commission. He is legal adviser to the University of Michigan and has held important political offices. Perry, holder of numerous academic degrees, is editor and publisher of The Adrian Telegram. He has been a director of The Associated Press since 1923. He is on vacation in Nova Scotia. A strong advocate of the merit system in government, Mrs. Jones is former president of the Michigan League of Women Voters.
