A family dinner and a reception today will honor Mr. and Mrs. Charles Knight of Ann Arbor on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple lives at 1216 White St.
Mr. Knight, who is 76 years old, and Mrs. Knight, who is 75, have lived almost all their lives in Washtenaw county. For the past 15 years they have resided in Ann Arbor and Mr. Knight has been employed by the Staebler Oil Co.
Born Aug. 16, 1862, in DeWitt, Clinton county, Mr. Knight came to live with his grandfather, Rufus Knight, in Scio township, at the age of two years when his mother died. Mrs. Knight was born Clara Ann Moore in Scio township on Dec. 12, 1863.
The couple was married on Dec. 26, 1888, by Rev. Erp of St. Andrew’s Episcopal church and went to Durand to live. After six months they returned to the Rufus Knight farm in Scio township where they resided for 35 years.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Knight. Those living are Mrs. Harriet Williams, Mrs. Edith Behringer, Mrs. Ruth Heusel, Mrs. Ida Rayne and Raymond C, Knight, all of Ann Arbor; and Edward C. Knight of Kalamazoo. One daughter, Charlotte, died in infancy. There are 14 grandchildren.
Three of the attendants and several of the guests present at the wedding have been invited to attend the dinner at noon today. Covers will be laid for 35. Decorations are to be in gold, yellow and white with a large tiered wedding cake for a centerpiece.
About 100 invitations have been issued for the reception to be held from 2 to 5 this afternoon at Pittsfield Grange hall.
