Mrs. May Steurnagel, who for many years had operated a dressmaking establishment in Ann Arbor, died last night at her home at 221 W. Ann St., following an illness of several months. She was 70 years old.
Mrs. Steurnagel was born Jan. 10, 1869, in Elmira, Ont., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Helbein. She came to Ann Arbor in 1900 and established a dressmaking business at 311 S. Main St. Later she moved to the present residence on W. Ann St., where she continued the business.
She was married to George Steurnagel, who died in 1931. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran church and had been an officer of the Lady Maccabees for the past 25 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Alexander Schlupe, of Ann Arbor; six grandchildren, Harrison Schlupe, Mrs. Fred J. Looker, and Robert, Erma, Ralph and Doris May Schlupe, all of this city; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Miss Elenora Heibein, of Elmira, Ont., Mrs. Tena Solley, of Santa Cruz, Calif., Mrs. Annie Goodwin, of Guelph, Ont., and Mrs. Lavina Jones, of this city; three brothers, Alexander Heibein, of Vancouver, B. C., John Heibein, of Hamilton, Ont., and Henry Heibein, of Ann Arbor; several nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Mrs. Christian Paul, of Ann Arbor.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Muehlig funeral chapel, Rev. E. C. Stellhorn officiating, and interment will be in Bethlehem cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral chapel.
