Mack's Inc. Opens Doors On Thursday

City’s Newest Department Store Has Completely Fresh Stock

Ann Arbor’s newest department store, Mack’s Inc will be opened at 10 o’clock Thursday morning with the formal opening to continue through Saturday night.

The firm will open in the buildings on S. Main St. at Liberty St. leased from Mack & Co. which operated a department store there for 82 years.

Revamping of the'interior of all three floors is being completed and the stock is being placed in new display cases which have been installed. The cases are of table heighth as found in many modern department stores and add to the spacious appearance of the remodeled store.

All New Stock

None of the stock of the former Mack & Co. store was taken over by the new firm in leasing buildings. All of the stock is newly selected by buyers chosen by Chauncey T. Ray, president of Mack's, Inc., for their experience In their respective lines.

"I believe we have a fine line of quality merchandise and quality, always will be emphasized in our stock," Mr. Ray declared in discussing plans for the opening of the store. Every dollar’s worth or merchandise in. stock was ' bought within the last three '

"We hope everyone will feel welcome to come in and view our merchandise at any time. We want them to shop in comfort. We are going to make it the best store we can and we want to make our store a part of Ann Arbor’s thriving business,” he added.

"No one expects to receive $2 for $1  but everyone is entitled to receive 100 cents value for a dollar and that is what we intend to give,” Mr. Ray said.

"Every employee selected for our staff  been instructed that that service to our customers will always be the policy of this store. We will invite charge accounts and will establish a budget plan for larger amounts.” 

Store Hours Announced 

Store hours for the three-days formal opening, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Store hours thereafter will be from 9 to 5:30 except on Saturday when the store will remain open until 9 o’clock. 

The north unit of the store building will be given over to clothing and furnishings for men and boys forming a complete department. The remainder of the first floor will feature departments devoted to women's and chlidren's shoes, stationary, jewelry, notions, toiletries, hosiery, neckware, gloves and other accessories.

Wearing apparel for women and children, lingerie, infant's wear, millinery, domestics, blankets, yard goods and draperies will be the chief stock of the second floor with the third floor devoted to rugs, linoleum, stoves, washing machines and like household equipment,

Goods in Basement

In the basement will be found electrical goods and fixtures, hardware, houseware inclusive of dishes and glassware, paints, lower priced line of rugs and lower priced millinery, wearing apparel, domestics and draperies.

The beauty parlor will be continued on the second floor and the branch post office will be retained in the store but will be located more conveniently, toward the rear of the men's section.

Offices for the credit and cash departments will be retained on the second floor with administrative offices on the third.

The remodeling has included removal of small partitioned sections in order to increase the display space as much as possible. New lighting fixtures were included in the remodeling.
