Rummage Sale Opens Jan. 18

Kiwanis Will Raise Funds To Aid Children

Ann Arbor Kiwanians will hold their 15th annual rummage sale for the benefit of underprivileged children Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Jan. 18, 19 and 20 in the store buildings at 314 and 316 S. Main St.

The club has set a goal of $2,000 for the sale, and Kiwanians hope to raise a large part of the amount which they spend each year among underprivileged children and especially for the Kiwanis program of aid to crippled children at University hospital.

Club members have been busy for several weeks gathering merchandise of all kinds to be sold at the stores during these three days. Both new and used merchandise will be sold, and all used wearing apparel is being dry cleaned or laundered before being added to the stock for the rummage sale. Contributions of Ann Arbor merchants and residents to the sale have been supplemented by articles from other communities.

Charles W. Gregory is general chairman for the 1940 rummage sale, and the women’s chairman is Mrs. Frank Bowen, who will be assisted by Mrs. Harold Barnum. Arthur E. Crippen will act as store manager, and he will be assisted by Fred W. Gross.

Solicitation outside the city is in charge of a committee headed by Lewis C. Reimann, while N. J. Prakken is chairman of the committee on solicitation in Ann Arbor. Herbert Beisiegel is in charge of farm solicitation, and Harold Barnum is supervising contributions from the dairies.

F. Fred Staebler and members of his committee have been assigned the work of collecting articles which Ann Arbor residents wish to donate to the sale. Contributors may have their articles collected and taken to the sale headquarters by calling 4195 or 2-3295.
