Census Enumerators To Begin Tomorrow

Census enumerators will begin tomorrow, counting the population of Washtenaw county and making a survey of housing and agriculture. Harold Olson, 606 E. Catherine St., is directing the census, and a partial list of the enumerators who will work in the county, was announced today.

The workers will visit all homes in Washtenaw county to obtain complete statistical data about the residents, information about the home, and in the case of farms, detailed information on the crops.

Each householder will be asked to give the value of his home, if owned, the monthly rental, if rented, the name of every person in the household, including lodgers and hired help and the relation to the head of the family, ages of members of the household, marital status, schooling, citizenship, and where each person lived five years ago, that is on April 1, 1935.

Gather Employment Facts

To provide complete facts of employment and unemployment, each person of 14 years of age or over must indicate whether he or she was at work for pay or profit in private industry during the week of March 24 to 30. If the person is not working in private industry or in government work, he is to state whether he was working for WPA, NYA, or CCC that same week. Employed persons also are to furnish data on the number of weeks worked in 1939 and the total salary received.

Housing facilities of the population will be the subject of the housing survey and householders will be requested to give the age of the house, material, number of rooms, repairs needed, water supply, number of bathtubs, lighting equipment, refrigeration, fuel used and the like.
