Chuck Killins - Ann Arbor City Golf Tournament

Chuck Killins, shown at the left above, took over the giant-killing duties in the quarter-finals of the men’s senior city golf tournament yesterday at Barton Hills, when he eliminated the defending champion and six-times winner of the crown, Woody Malloy.
In a spectacular match which see-sawed back and forth, Killins finally won from the champion with a par four at the 19th hole, after squaring the match at the 18th.
At the right above is Walter “Red” Weid, who also took the measure of a former city champion, when he defeated Louie Wenger, 2 and 1. It was ponderous drives by Weid that gave him an edge over Wenger, who won the title in 1938 at Barton.
In today's semi-finals Killins opposed Chuck Menefee and Weid played Don O’Neil. The 36-hole finals will be held tomorrow.
