Total Of $6,334 Raised In Ann Arbor To Aid U.S. Soldiers
Ann Arbor went, over the top in its USO campaign to raise funds for clubhouse facilities for soldiers, sailors and defense workers.
John D. Finlayson, the campaign chairman, reported today that $6,334.61 had been subscribed in Ann Arbor since the drive opened June 3. The quota had been $6,000.
Several hundred more dollars are expected to swell the fund by the time all late returns are reported, Mr. Finlayson said.
In observance of the event, a “victory” celebration for campaign workers will be held at the Michigan Union from 8 to 10 o’clock tomorrow night, with refreshments being furnished by Osias Zwerdling, local USO president.
The final audit of pledges will be made at the party, Mr. Finlayson said.
The local drive was pant of a nationwide campaign to raise $10,765,000 to operate recreational and social centers which the government j will build adjacent to army camps, naval bases and defense industries.
