Two Will Help In Finding Jobs For Released Soldiers
Pierce And Hamberg Named Liaison Agents For This County
Melvin C. Pierce. 914 W. Liberty St., and Lawrence Hamberg, 1313 S. Slate St., were appointed yesterday by Gov. Van Wagoner as liaison agents to aid re-employment committeemen in returning soldiers to gainful employment as they are released from the armed forces.
Mr. Pierce will serve with local selective service board No. 1 and Mr. Hamberg with board No. 2.
Selective service officials in Lansing also announced the appointment of Dr. Martin P O'Hara, Ypsilanti dentist, to the Washtenaw County selective service board No. 2.
The liaison agents are to provide contact between men returning from military service and their former employers. They also will work with the state employment service to help men whose jobs no longer exist, or who for some other reason may he unable to return to their old employment.
Draft boards hereafter are to be notified before soldiers are relieved of duty, to speed re-employment. This will permit a quick check and notification of the employment service in cases where returning soldiers will need other jobs.
Employment committeemen will be appointed soon, the governor said.
