UFER’S VICTORY OVER KANE WAS A SURPRISE

Bob Ufer, Michigan's quarter-miler surprised even his coach, Ken Doherty, when he spotted Campbell Kane, Indiana star, 10 yards and beat him to the tape in the final lap of the two-mile relay race recently run at Madison Square Garden...Ufer did his 440 on the highly-banked Garden track in 56 seconds.

The Michigan swimmers have three Big Ten meets in four days this week, meeting Ohio State at Columbus on Wednesday, Northwestern at Evanston on Friday and Purdue at Lafayette on Saturday...The Wolverines who recently defeated Ohio State, their main threat in the Big Ten by a score of 50-34, will be favored to sweep all three meets...But Yale here on Feb. 21, is a different story...That meet has genial Matt Mann worried.
