Keen’s Squad Secures Five Pins In Meet

Wistert Drops Decision To Cornhusker Grid Star

Making a tackle or slinging a block on the football field is duck soup for Al Wistert, Michigan's 220-pound tackle. But one needs more than the technique of a flying tackle to pin a man in a wrestling meet. Especially if the man weighs 260 pounds.

Al "The Ox” found this out last night as he made his debut as a Michigan wrestler and dropped a decision to Herb Jackman of Nebraska in the heavyweight bout. Jackman also is a football tackle. The outcome of Al’s bout had no real bearing on the meet as the talented pupils of Coach Cliff Keen polished off the Cornhuskers, 28 to 6.

Al's teammates had accounted for five falls and one decision before "The Ox" was called into action. However, as far as the fans were concerned the feature of the meet was the Wistert performance.

His opponent knew more about the rudiments of the grappling game, but he didn't have any more aggressiveness. Al finally lost a decision as Jackman won by a 5-2 point score.

Gets Quick Fall

The real sensation of the meet was the quick fall which Harb Barnett of the Wolverines gained over Ben Copple of Nebraska in 45 seconds in the 155-pound weight.

Dick Koepel started Michigan on the victory road by pinning Myer Neoka, Nebraska Hawaiian, in 4:55 in the opening bout at 121 pounds. Maurie Anderson of Michigan then decisioned Frank Messersmith of the visitors at 128.

It took Ray Deane just five minutes and 44 seconds to throw Ken Miller of Nebraska.

Nick Copple of the Cornhuskers remained undefeated after two years of competition by scoring a decision over Manley Johnson in the 145-pound fracas.

Bill Courtright tossed Ken Husemoller of Nebraska in 8:44 at 165 pounds while it took Capt. Jim Galles of the Wolverines only four minutes and 22 seconds to secure a fall over Bob Poe in the light-heavy argument.
