Naval Officer

Kenneth Marantette, popular social studies teacher and skipper of the Ann Arbor Sea Scouts, will leave next Wednesday for two months of special training at Princeton, N. J., newly-opened naval training school. He has been commissioned as a lieutenant, senior grade, in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Marantette Gets Navy Commission

Kenneth Marantette, who would have completed 12 years as a social studies teacher in the Ann Arbor public school system in February, has received a commission of lieutenant, senior grade, in the U. S. Naval Reserve, and will leave Wednesday for two months of special training at Princeton, N. J.

Popular as a teacher, and active as skipper of the Ann Arbor Sea Scouts group for six years, Lt. Marantette is a native of Sarasota, Fla., and a graduate of the University education school, where he also took his master of arts degree. He taught 11 years at Tappan Junior High school, and had begun his first year at Slauson Junior high with the opening of the schools this fall.

Lt. Marantette will be a member of the first class to be trained at the newly-opened U p naval training school at Princeton. He has applied for PT boat service training and expects to be on active duty by the end of the year.
