18 Members Of Varsity Receive Letters In Track
The war is causing the University of Michigan to break a number of sports precedents and another one felt that experience yesterday.
Coach J. Kenneth Doherty awarded varsity track letters to 18 men—the first time in history that major awards have been presented before the end of the outdoor season in May.
Doherty said it was done in order to assure letter presentations to athletes who will be in military service before May.
The letter winners:
Leonard Alkon, Charles Pinney, John Roxborough and Elmer Swanson, Detroit; Willis Glas, Art Upton and George Ostroot, Ann Arbor; Jim Byerly, Owosso; Bill Dale. St. Charles, I11.; Bob and Ross Hume, Canonsburg, Pa. twins; John Ingersoll, Duluth, Minn.; Ernie Leonardi, Alpena; Jack Martin, Huntington, W. Va.; Dave Matthews, Royal Oak; Jim Seare, Webstergrove, Mo.; Bob Segula, Corunna, and Bob Ufer, Pittsburg.
