Bob Ufer Wins 600-Yard Race At K Of C Meet

Bob Ufer and Chuck Pinney of | the Michigan track team were victorious Saturday on widely separated fronts. Ufer won the 600-yard run at the K. of C. games at Madison Square Garden in New York while Pinney captured Michigan's only first in the Illinois Tech relays at Chicago when he won the 70-yard low hurdles.

Ufer won the 600 in the rather slow time of 1:11.4 with Fred Sickinger of Manhattan placing second and Charley Beetham, former Ohio State ace, third.

Capt. Dave Matthews of the Wolverines placed second in the Garden 1,000-yard run, being nosed out by Gerald Carver of Penn. The Michigan two-mile relay team won over Fordham in the Garden with Ross Hume and John Roxborough running with Ufer and Matthews. Their time was 7:48.8.

Michigan placed third behind Notre Dame and Illinois in the Tech relays. In addition to Pinney, Wolverine points were picked by Len Alkon with a third in the 70- yard dash, Elmer Swanson's fourth in the high hurdles, Martin's fifth in the low hurdles. Bob Hume’s fourth in the mile followed by Leonardos fifth while the Michigan sprint medley team finished fourth.
