Architect Now On Sea Duty Robert Carroll May, 28, son of Mrs. Carroll H. May, 1328 Washtenaw Ave., who travelled through pre-war Europe in 1938 on an architectural fellowship and was with the architectural firm of Frank Lloyd Wright for three years, has put away his drafting instruments for the duration. A line officer in the Navy, Ensign May is now on sea duty, after having spent a short leave here following his graduation March 5 from Midshipman's school at Northwestern University. Ensign May enlisted in V-7 of the Naval Reserve last June in Detroit where he was employed by the firm of Morrison & Sadler on a co-operative housing project in Royal Oak, designed by the Wright Service. He reported to the Midshipman's school Nov. 10 and received the training leading to his commission at both Northwestern and Abbott Hall in Chicago. A graduate of Ann Arbor High school in 1932 and of the College of Architecture in 1937, where he was a member of the Architectural Society and on the central committee for the Architect's ball, Bob won the George G. Booth travelling fellowship which took him to Europe to study in Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Italy. Returning to the United States, Ensign May joined Frank Lloyd Wright's firm, for whom he worked for three years in Arizona and Wisconsin, returning to Detroit last year. Born in Urbana, O., he has lived in Ann Arbor for the past 20 years. Veteran Of Sea War Is Home William W. Askren, 26-year-old Ann Arbor naval officer, is home on a well-earned leave from service in the merchant armed guard during which his ship was torpedoed in Caribbean and attacked by bombers during the invasion of French North Africa.
