Sydney Dewey Called To Duty
Lt. R. Sydney Dewey, 39, left today for Babson Park, Wellesley, Mass., to report Saturday to the Naval Reserve Service of Supply school there for six weeks of Indoctrination.
On leave of absence from the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co., in which he held the position of assistant operating superintendent of the Detroit area, Lt. Dewey was commissioned a full lieutenant in the Naval Reserve in September.
Lt. Dewey, who has been a resident of Ann Arbor for the past three years, is a former guard of the University of Michigan football team, playing in 1924, 1925, and 1926. He is a member of the M Club.
His wife, the former Viola Rau, and their two sons, Dick, 13, and Bradley, 9, are remaining in Ann Arbor at 1313 Forest Ave., until Lt. Dewey receives a permanent assignment.
