J. Henry Hallen, Washtenaw county native who lived most of his life in this area, died this morning at St. Joseph's Mercy hospital following a long illness. He was 87 years old. The son of the late James and Roseanna Hallen, he was born in Saline, Nov. 4, 1856.
As a young man he lived in Northville and Webster townships, later residing in Ann Arbor. For 14 years he was employed by the Michigan Central Railroad at Niles, Jackson, and Mackinaw City. He retired at the age of 70 and resided in Ann Arbor following his retirement.
Surviving are two sons, J. William Hallen, Rushton and Joseph H. Hallen, Ann Arbor; three daughters, Mrs. Luella Rehberg, Port Huron, and Mrs. Esther Tenny and Miss Mildred Hallen, both of Ann Arbor; one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Dancer of Ann Arbor, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at St. Thomas Catholic church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas cemetery. Friends may call at the Muehlig funeral chapel where the Rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock Wednesday night.
