Harriet Shankland Dies At 84 Years

YPSILANTI - Miss Harriet A. Shankland, 84 years old, resident of Ypsilanti for 17 years and a former Ypsilanti school teacher for 21 years, died this morning at the Anna Botsford Bach home in Ann Arbor after a long illness. She was born Jan. 26, 1859, at New Haven and was the only child of William and Martha Moore Shankland. At the age of three years, she came with her parents to a farm near Ann Arbor where her father died in 1864.
Shortly after her father's death, Miss Shankland and her mother came to Ypsilanti where Miss Shankland lived until going to Ann Arbor 12 years ago. She was a graduate of the Ypsilanti public schools and the Michigan State Normal College. She taught in Ypsilanti, Saline, and other schools.
Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Muehlig chapel in Ann Arbor. Rev. C. H. Loucks will officiate. Burial will be in Oakridge cemetery at Dixboro. Friends may call at the chapel.
