Foreign Enrollment At University Now Largest In History
This semester's influx of new foreign students will make the University's foreign enrollment the largest in history, Robert Klinger, assistant counselor to foreign students, said today, and although an accurate count can not be made yet, Klinger estimated that 430 students from other countries are now enrolled.
The number of newly arrived foreign students at the University, reported as 53 by the office of the International Center following registration of students three weeks ago, has been increased to 93 by late arrivals from Turkey and Latin America, Dr. Esson M. Gale, counselor to foreign students, said today.
Joining the ranks of the 14 new students from Turkey who arrived here in time to register for the opening of the term on March 6 are 20 more Turkish army, navy and air force officers sent to Ann Arbor by their government to study engineering. Five Turkish civilians are also among the late registrants.
Fifteen new students from Latin America, arriving in the past three weeks, are also attending classes now.
