Ann Arbor Officer At Hospital In France
Regretting that he cannot -be with his regiment as it fights Its way to Berlin, First Lt. Donald Rivette is recovering from wounds in a hospital in France, according to word received from the reconnaissance officer by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ector Rivette, 920 Sybil St.
Lt. Rivette suffered wounds during combat duty "somewhere in France," and wrote that he expects to be hospitalized for at least four weeks.
Overseas since January, 1942, Rivette, an infantry officer, has seen action in the North African campaign, in Sicily, and, since one day after D-day, has been in the thick of the battle in France.
Rivette entered the Army as a reserve officer of the ROTC during the summer of 1940, a month after he had been graduated from the University.
He was stationed at Fort Custer until the attack on Pearl Harbor after which he was assigned to Fort Sheridan, Ill.
At Fort Sheridan, Donald requested a transfer to the paratroops and was sent to Fort Benning, Ga., for training.
During his training as a sky fighter Rivette broke his leg, and after his recovery was transferred back to infantry duty.
While in Georgia he met and married the former Helen Bishop, who lives with her parents in Columbus, Ga.
Lt. Rivette was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and Scabbard and Blade when he attended the University.

Lt. Donald E. Rivette, infantry reconnaissance officer, is recovering from wounds which he received in France. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ector Rivette, 920 Sybil St., and the husband of the former Helen Bishop, of Columbus, Ga.
