Nelson King Given Three-Year Sentence
Nelson O. King, one of two escaped convicts who kidnaped Ann Arbor Police Officer George Stauch last June 14, has been sentenced to a three-year federal penitentiary term at Cheyenne, Wyo., but will probably be returned to Ann Arbor to face charges of robbery and kidnaping.
Police Chief Sherman H. Mortenson said this morning he had learned that King was sentenced in Cheyenne on a charge of impersonating a United States Army officer. Cheyenne court authorities have not designated the prison where King is to serve his term, Mortenson said.
A detainer has been filed on King to enable Washtenaw authorities to return him to face trial here while Southern Michigan Prison authorities also have filed a detainer and wish King returned to face escape charges.
King and a companion, Martin Buczynski, escaped from the Michigan prison, later kidnaped Stauch, stole his gun, uniform and automobile and left him bound and gagged in an abandoned farm house near Ypsilanti. Buczynski was killed during a hold-up attempt in Detroit several weeks ago.
