H. W. Pipp, Noted Architect, Dies

Designed Buildings In Ann Arbor, Suburbs

Herman W. Pipp, 73, retired local architect, died yesterday morning at his home at 1547 Kensington Dr. after a long illness.

Born Jan. 1, 1872, in Brighton, he was the son of William and Elizabeth Schmid Pipp.

He came to Ann Arbor 50 years ago and had lived here since then.

Fifty years ago last Nov. 14, he was married to Catherine Irwin, of Ann Arbor.

He was a local architect for 40 years, retiring 10 years ago.

Among the Ann Arbor buildings he designed are the Nickels Arcade, Barton Hills Country Club, Whitker building, and many Ann Arbor homes, including several in Barton Hills.

He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic church.

Survivors are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Marie Schneider-yost and Mrs, Catherine Collins; one grandson, Frank Collins, jr., all of Ann Arbor; and one brother, William Pipp, of Howell.

Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning at St. Thomas church, with burial in St. Thomas cemetery.

Friends may call at the residence, where the Rosary will be recited at 8 o’clock tomorrow night.
