Heart Attack Fatal; Was City Resident For Last 70 Years

Miss Louise M. Tower, 98 years old, and a resident of Ann Arbor for the past 70 years, died this morning at St. Joseph Mercy hospital following a heart attack.
The daughter of Loyal and Deborah Anne Valentine Tower, she was born May 16, 1847 on the Tower homestead five miles southwest of Saline.
Coming to Ann Arbor with her parents as a young woman, she had lived here since then. She lived for many years on S. State St. in the first house south of the Cutting apartments, where she maintained a boarding house for students. For nearly 40 years, her home has been at 715 Church St.
Active all her life, her mind remained keen until her illness of the past week, and on the occasion of her birthday celebrations during the past several years, she recalled events in Ann Arbor’s development as an educational and medical center. She watched the city develop from a farm trading center with a small college, to its present proportions.
Surviving are a niece, Mrs. Robert K. Craig, who has lived with Miss Tower for the past 14 years; four nephews, Elmer O. Stimpson, Saline, Elmer O. Tower and Charles E. Tower, both of Ann Arbor, and Harry M. Tower, of LaCanada, Calif., and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Muehlig funeral chapel, with burial following in the family plot at Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel.
