EAST ANN ARBOR - Neighbors of Charles Davis, alarmed when they noticed that no fire was being kept up in the house at 3273 Forest Dr., where Davis lives alone, broke into the place yesterday afternoon and found the 65-year-old occupant lying helpless and thinly-clad on the floor of his bedroom.

One of the neighbors, Ray Rauser, called the sheriff's office, and Dr. Edwin C. Ganzhorn, county physician, was rushed to the scene by deputies. Dr. Ganzhorn said Davis apparently had suffered a heart attack and that he probably had been lying on the floor of the unheated room for at least 24 - and possibly as long as 48 - hours.

Davis was taken to St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital and treated for severe and prolonged exposure. Officials said that arrangements for the elderly man's admission at the Washtenaw Infirmary had been made some time ago, and that he was sufficiently recovered today to be transferred from St. Joseph's Hospital to the county institution.
