Gridley Moves To Ypsilanti Airport
The Gridley Flying Service completed its move yesterday to its newly-purchased air field on US-23—formerly known as the Ypsilanti airport—after more than 14 months of operations at Ann Arbor’s city airport.
Mrs. Don Gridley, wife of the owner and an officer of the concern, said that the field was purchased from Dwight Reynolds, prewar operator at the Ann Arbor port. It was disclosed how much was paid for the tract.
Gridley’s former quarters at the Ann Arbor airport have been subleased to the Airway Equipment Sales and Service Co., represented by Robert H. Young and Robert Holliday, both of Ann Arbor.
Located about one-half mile north of US-112 on US-23, the new Gridley field comprises 120 acres of field and runways. Still remaining there is a CAA-approved repair station operated by Sherman Lager and Arthur Jacobson, both of Ann Arbor.
The Gridley service is training about 55 student-pilots at the present, most of whom are enrolled under the GI flight training program, Mrs. Gridley said. The move from Ann Arbor was started about two weeks ago, with operation of the 12 Gridley-owned planes starting at the new field one week ago.
