Funeral services for Pfc. Robert W. Heusel, killed in action on Okinawa May 15, 1945, will be held at 3:30 Thursday afternoon at the Muehlig Chapel.

Pfc. Heusel was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Heusel of 1306 Belmar Pl.

He was born Dec. 1, 1924, in Scio township, and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1942. He entered service soon after and received boot training in the Marine Corps at San Diego, Calif.

He then was sent to radio school and finally to Camp Pendleton, Calif., for overseas assignment. He arrived in the Hawaiian Islands on Oct. 27, 1943, and participated in the successful invasions of Eniwetok, Guam and Okinawa.

While attending Ann Arbor High School, he was a member of the a capella choir and on the football squad. He was employed by Fiegel’s clothing store as a clerk prior to his enlistment.

Pfc. Heusel was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church of Saline.

The body will lie in State at the Muehlig Chapel from 7 until 9 o’clock tomorrow evening. Rev. Alvin Siemsen will conduct the Thursday afternoon services.

Besides his parents, Pfc. Heusel is survived by a sister, Nancy, of Ann Arbor.

Graveside services will be conducted at the Bethlehem Cemetery by members of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
